02/04/2019 - North Wales’ largest independent coach operator acquires Abacab

Alpine Travel expands with latest acquisition

One of North Wales’ leading coach hire companies has been bought by Llandudno based coach firm Alpine Travel.

Abacab, based in Conwy, has a fleet of luxury coaches, specialising in private coach hire. The family run company has been dedicated to providing premier travel since 1987, with an extensive fleet of coaches including mini coaches and accessible coaches, travelling across Wales and the UK.

Alpine Travel has recently finalised an arrangement to take over the successful firm to facilitate the retirement of owners Chris & Denise Jones and confirms that the excellent and dependable service will continue for customers and staff alike.

Chris Jones from Abacab said: “Having dedicated the vast proportion of our professional lives growing Abacab Coaches into one of the regions premier coach businesses, when the time came to retire, Denise & I believed that Chris & the team at Alpine would be the perfect people to continue with & maintain the excellent standards that our customers expect, whilst providing long term job security for our fantastic drivers.”

Chris Owens, Alpine Travel commented “Abacab has been in discussion with Alpine Travel since making the decision to retire earlier this year, and I am delighted to have been approached and look forward to continuing the excellent service they have been providing to their customers for many years.

The Abacab staff and fleet will now be based from our Llandudno depot and for the loyal customers of Abacab they will not see a change in the excellent service they currently enjoy, but will have access to the largest independent coach tour operator in North Wales, and we hope to be able to support them with even more services.“

Founded in the little market town of Llanrwst back in 1972, Alpine Travel has now grown to be the largest independently owned coach operator in North Wales. Since its creation Alpine Travel has adopted a policy of expansion through acquisition and over the years has successfully acquired interests in several local coach and bus businesses, whilst also expanding into new markets as opportunities or legislation allowed.
