30/08/2018 - Lucketts pledges orange jersey to top Vélo South fundraiser

Supporting the Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK West Sussex, Restart Rugby and British Heart Foundation

Caring fundraisers are set to be applauded at a brand-new cycling event in the South. Coach firm Lucketts Travel has pledged to award the top fundraiser at Vélo South with a special ‘Orange Jersey’.

In a nod to the Tour de France the company will hand the commemorative jersey – in its trademark orange colour – to whoever raises the most for one of the event’s official charities. It will also top up the fundraiser’s amount raised by an additional £250.

The four official charities for this year’s event are Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK West Sussex, Restart Rugby and British Heart Foundation.

Lucketts cycle 2Ian Luckett, director at Lucketts, says he hopes it will spur riders on to raise as much money as they can for the worthy causes.

“As an organisation that’s been operating in the region for more than 90 years, giving back to local charities and communities is important to us. We hope that this new competitive element will galvanise participants to raise even more money for charity in the hope of bringing home the Lucketts Orange Jersey.”

Vélo South takes place on September 23 and will see 15,000 cyclists set off from Goodwood Motor Circuit for a 100-mile closed road sportive. Riders will have the unique opportunity to travel through the Goodwood Estate and through the county of West Sussex.

Lucketts Travel is the Official Coach Partner for the event, providing luxurious coaches and mini buses  across the weekend.

As well as providing transport for marshals during the event, a team made up of Lucketts staff, suppliers and stakeholders will take part alongside the thousands of other keen cyclists entering the event. The Lucketts Vélo South team is fundraising for Transaid, a charity that works to provide affordable and sustainable transport for people in economically developing countries. Transaid was founded by Save the Children, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and its Patron, HRH The Princess Royal.

Jon Ridgeon, CSM Active Chairman said: “We’re thrilled to hear that the Lucketts team is raising money for a worthy cause through its involvement and encouraging others to do the same with its Lucketts Orange Jersey. One of our previous cycle events in Birmingham raised an estimated £2.1m for charity so there’s potential for huge figures to be raised.”
