Understanding the options
What is the future for diesel powered coaches? That’s a subject taxing the minds of the industry and members of the Guild of British Coach Operators recently heard from a number of expert speakers, as well as examining the hybrid diesel/electric coach being demonstrated by Irizar UK and already trialled by one Guild member.
Meeting at the Radisson Blu hotel at East Midlands Airport, Guild members had presentations from the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, Evobus, Scania and Irizar about further ways to make diesel engined coaches cleaner and what the alternatives might be, including biodiesel, biogas, hybrid and pure electric options.

It’s not possible yet to draw any firm conclusions but Guild members are at the forefront of exploring what the alternative technologies have to offer as they strive to offer the very best in environmentally friendly coach travel.
