31/10/2016 - Bakers Dolphin Urge Schools to “Think Safety”

Safety on school transport

West Country coach operator Bakers Dolphin has launched a campaign promoting safety on school transport.

The Weston-super-Mare based operator, which provides transport to over 100 schools across the region is calling on governors and teachers to ensure they understand their obligations when booking vehicles for school trips.

Max Fletcher, Managing Director of Bakers Dolphin, said: “The legislation has increased over the years and there is an obligation on the schools, and governors in particular, to ensure they choose a safe operator.

“Things like seat belts and CCTV cameras are now vital for a school trip. It doesn’t matter whether it is a short hop down the road to a playing field or a European ski trip, the same safety standards need to be in place.

“We have invested in the latest technology to keep track of our vehicles and how they are performing and this campaign is the latest move we have made to help those who work tirelessly as school governors to understand the issues.”

Bakers Dolphin has created a video that is being circulated to all schools in the area setting out the points governors should look out for when booking transport and the obligations that they have. It is aimed at making specifying transport easier for schools.
