Raising awareness of prostate cancer in Bristol

West Country coach operators Bakers Dolphin are backing a campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer in Bristol.

The holiday company is sponsoring the annual Run For The Future, which will be held on The Downs, Bristol on September 14 and is also helping to raise awareness with leaflets on board coaches over the next few weeks.

Amanda Harrington, Marketing Director, said: "Many of our customers are over 50 and that is the danger time for men when they need to get themselves checked out for prostate cancer.

"Thankfully Bristol is a centre of excellence for robotic operations so if people in the area get checked early there is fantastic treatment available. As a local business with many older customers we were keen to support the campaign in any way we can."

During the first ever Bristol and District Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign the holiday company will be carrying information leaflets on its coaches for customers. They will also be one of many local businesses with a stall at the Run For The Future event on the Downs, which will include music from the Barry Walsh Band and the Ambling Band.

Organiser Ian Beattie said: "It is great that local businesses are getting behind the event, which has raised £250.000 since being started in memory of two Bristol Rotarians in 2006. We want it to be a fun event for all the family on September 14 where people can enjoy themselves whether they are taking part in the five kilometre run or just watching the runners."
