26/11/2013 - Avon Scouts on the Move

A packed Autumn activity programme organised for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from across the region has proved a great success thanks to a complex logistics operation mounted by West coach specialists Bakers Dolphin.

Hundreds of youngsters from across North Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath took part in a series of visits organised by the Avon Scouts Activity and Programme Team - designed to provide all age groups with an exciting day out and raise the profile of today's Scouting movement.

Avon Scouts called in Weston-super-Mare based specialists Bakers Dolphin to manage the   transport operation to ensure the youngsters arrived safely at fun destinations around the UK.

While younger age groups, Beaver and Cubs, headed south to Crealy Park near Exeter the Scouts and Explorers visited Alton Towers.

Avon Scouts Programme and Support team member Ann Parker said the county-wide operation had gone like clockwork.

She said: "We are very grateful for the help we received from Bakers Dolphin who took over the entre transport operation and made sure everybody ended up in the right place at the right time. Bakers Dolphin were also very flexible, making sure they had the right number of coaches laid on to meet our requirements - right up to the time we were all due to leave."

The Avon Scouts Activity team is planning further large scale fun and exciting events and already have plans for 2014 and 2015 leading up to the next Avon County Jamboree in 2016 and beyond - reminding Scouts just what a popular and wide-ranging organisation they belong to.

Bakers Dolphin sales and marketing director Amanda Harrington said staff had certainly done their best to manage the operation.

She said: "We needed to carry more than a thousand Beavers and Cubs down to Crealy for the day, with more than twenty coaches, while another 280 scouts and Explorers went north in a fleet of six coaches.

"This was one of the biggest fleet hire operations we have staged in recent years and the organisation and planning which went in to it demonstrated that we can cope with major events on behalf of clubs, schools and sports organisations."
