Johnsons Coaches provide 18 coaches for ‘Big Centenary Day Out’.

In July, 900 members of the Women’s Institute came from all over Warwickshire, boarded an armada of 18 coaches and travelled to Lincoln for their ‘Big Centenary Day Out’.

John Johnson, commercial director at Johnsons Coach Travel said, “Warwickshire Women’s Institute are celebrating their centenary this year and as part of this we were delighted to help organise their big day.

On arrival, Members were welcomed into the city’s magnificent Cathedral by the Dean of the Cathedral Christine Wilson, tourism representatives from ‘Visit Lincoln’ and the city’s Mayor, Chris Burke.  The arrival celebration was also attended by The WI National Chair, Lynne Stubbings and Lincolnshire North WI Federation chair, Christine Morgan, and proceedings were rounded off with a rousing rendition of ‘Jerusalem’ from all, accompanied of course by the sound of the magnificent cathedral organ.

Johnsons WI He added, “We’ve been really impressed by the wealth of attractions on offer in the city and by the enthusiastic support provided by Patrick Deeming at the Cathedral and by Charlotte Goy at ‘Visit Lincoln’.”  After a warm welcome in the Cathedral, WI members were able to enjoy the city with the help of generous discounts at a whole range of attractions, shops, cafés and restaurants. We were even spoilt with an organised fly past by the RAF as they are celebrating 100 years too! A fantastic ‘Big Centenary Day Out’ was enjoyed by everyone.

Sue Faye Townsend, a member of the WI who attended on the day said “Having just returned home from Warwickshire Federation WI Centenary Big Day Out to Lincoln; thank you to Johnsons and the WI for all the work involved in organising it, your eye for detail was outstanding. I had an amazing day and would love to visit Lincoln again. “
