03/06/2015 - Submarine Boosts Tours To South Coast

Day trips by Bakews Dolphin

West Country coach operators Bakers Dolphin are taking a surge of bookings for people from Bristol and North Somerset wanting to visit the West Country city of Portsmouth.

Britain's only surviving World War Two Submarine HMS Alliance, which visitors can tour is just one of the maritime attractions which has seen an upsurge of interest in the South coast city.

Day trips to Portsmouth from the region have now been scheduled by the Weston-super-Mare coach operators for Friday August 14, Monday August 31 and Friday October 9.

Amanda Harrington, Sales and Marketing Director at Bakers Dolphin said: "Portsmouth's historic dockyard has been growing as a tourist destination over the years with HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior at the top of the list of historic vessels to see.

"But now we are seeing a huge increase in interest in more recent history and the Second World War submarine is a fascinating tour.

"Add to that the fact that there are great shops and fantastic places to eat and you can see why we are suddenly getting an increase in interest. We have put on the days out to meet demand and added it to our comprehensive days out brochure this year."
