01/02/2019 - Skills Holidays “Holding out for a Hero” As Part of 100th Year

Hunt for local community heroes to be among the very first to be the ‘Stars of Skills’

A Nottingham based coach travel company celebrating its centenary has launched an official hunt for local community heroes to be among the very first to be the ‘Stars of Skills’.

Skills Holidays, based in Bulwell, Nottingham, have come a long way since their humble beginnings in 1919 and are now on the search for community ambassadors and local heroes from Nottinghamshire, to feature as the name of several of their coaches throughout 2019.

Nominated by relatives and friends, these ‘Stars of Skills’ will be chosen by the Board of Directors based on contributions towards their local community and the winners will be unveiled along with the named star on the coaches at the Skills Open Day, taking place on Sunday 7 April at the Skills Head Office.

“We would love to hear from the relatives and friends of anyone who has done something selfless in the last few years, or really made a difference to the community in which they live,” said chairman Nigel Skill.

The announcement comes as the company revealed future plans to also roll out an initiative to name part of its fleet after local celebrities and a member of the local community who is also turning 100 in 2019.

Skills 1921  The company, also known as Skills Motor Coaches, was founded 100 years ago by the current chairman Nigel Skills’ grandfather Arthur Skill, and has continued to expand in the past 31 years that Nigel has been at the helm of the business, with a turnover reaching over 20 million, from around 8 million in 2015.

“We’ve grown rapidly in the last four years through strategic acquisitions, including local operators and a large National Express contract which we won in 2015,” Nigel added.

“Our 100th year is a huge celebration of the business and how it has evolved over the years. We would like to share this great achievement with the community in which we are based, and what better way than to get local people and our customers to feature on our coaches.”

To put a friend or relative forward for the competition, simply tell Skills who you are nominating and why they deserve to win plus your contact name and number and send your entries to Skills Holidays, Marketing Department, Belgrave Road, Bulwell, Nottingham, NG6 8LY.

The deadline for entries is Monday 4th March.
