04/10/2012 - Star In The South - David Luckett Wins Lifetime Achievement Award
The driving force behind the South Coast’s most successful coach travel company has just received recognition for 53 years of hard work in the region.
David Luckett MBE, Chairman of Fareham based Lucketts Travel, was awarded the coveted prize at the Southern Business Awards. The Awards are organised by regional newspaper company Johnston Press.
Each of the Groups newspapers had already organised ceremonies in their own part of Southern England earlier this year. The Portsmouth News had given David its ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award in February. Staff at the paper were delighted to see their recipient from Fareham going on to get the title for the whole Southern region when the ‘best of the best’ were announced in a ceremony in Brighton.
Emma Judd, Business Editor, The Portsmouth News said, “David has done so well with his firm, turning it into a well-respected, well-run family firm which is the market leader for training and excellence. Everywhere you go in the Portsmouth area everyone knows David and what he´s achieved. That, coupled with his dedication to helping others, meant we had no hesitation in awarding him the lifetime achievement award - and it was right that he should go onto win the same award at the Southern Business Awards. We´re thrilled for him, and for how well it reflects on our own area”.
David, said, “There are so many men and women working hard to make their business a success in Southern England, I was humbled to find out that my own efforts were being recognised in this way. It’s an honour to receive the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ amongst a group who each deserve a prize for their own success. Business has never been tougher or more competitive than it is today, and we all have to work even harder to improve standards and profitability”.
It’s a determination to keep getting better that has seen David rise to the top of his chosen profession. With a passion for staff development and customer service he has led Lucketts Travel to become one of the most successful coach travel operators in the country. An ongoing growth in sales, careful expansion by acquiring other local firms and investing in the latest vehicles have helped increase business whilst delivering even better services for passengers.
