Bakers Dolphin supporting Penny Brohn breast cancer charity

A bus full of over 40 volunteers travelled from the South West to the big smoke to help out at the 20th annual charity Moonwalk.

Weston-super-Mare coach company Bakers Dolphin and locally-based national charity Penny Brohn UK teamed up to support this iconic annual power-walking event, which raises millions of pounds for breast cancer causes.

The event, which sees over 15,000 women come together in brightly decorated bras, took place on Clapham Common and featured both a full marathon and half marathon option for participants.BD charity

Bakers Dolphin Sales and Marketing Director, Amanda Harrington, said: “This event is one of the biggest in the fundraising calendar. It was great to be able to offer people from the South West the chance to go and support it, along with Penny Brohn UK which offers great services in the region.

“The volunteers all worked really hard handing out water and selling merchandise so it was great for them to be able to sign up without the worry of how to get there and back.

“The atmosphere at the MoonWalk is electric especially this year with the Roaring 20s theme for the 20th anniversary. Volunteering is a fantastic opportunity to get a group of friends together and support a good cause.”

With over 36 years’ experience, Penny Brohn UK understands that cancer impacts every part of a person’s life and the number affected is increasing.

It is the UK’s leading charity offering whole person support, its Bristol Whole Life Approach – focused on the person and family’s mind, body, spirit and emotions, before, during and after treatment.

Penny Brohn UK’s free adult residential and day courses empower people to have more control of their health and wellbeing, to turn a potentially devastating diagnosis into a powerful life-changing experience.

The charity focuses on areas such as diet, exercise and managing stress, through courses, one-to-one therapies, groups, a Treatment Support Clinic and national helpline.

Penny Brohn UK wants to reach as many people as possible, but relies on donations from people and organisations including Walk the Walk.

Penny Brohn chief executive Laura Kerby said: “Each year Walk the Walk is so generous to Penny Brohn and we really couldn’t continue our work without them.

“We are also very grateful to those at Bakers Dolphin, who have provided us with transport for this event for the past few years, saving us a huge cost.”
