Rowing Away For Charity

A team of employees at a Weston-super-Mare business are taking part in a Dragon Boat race to raise money for The 1st Nailsea Scout Group.

The team of 20 from Bakers Dolphin Coaches have been in full training to take part in the race which is taking place at Bristol Docks on September 26 2010.

During each race there will be 16 rowers and a drummer taking part and the Bakers Dolphin group will be required to race three times – even more if they get into the finals!

Amanda Harrington, sales and marketing manager at Bakers Dolphin and team member said: “We’re all really excited to be taking part in something like this; it’s nothing like anything any of us have done before.

“We went for our first training session and it didn’t go too bad – we are all here to have fun and to raise lots of money for charity.

“This year, Bakers Dolphin has chosen The 1st Nailsea Scout Group as the charity of the year because they are in desperate need to replace their Training and Activity Centre on the Clevedon Road.

“We hope everyone donates generously to us and we hope the weather stays dry for the day – even if we don’t manage too.”

The 1st Nailsea Scout Group aims to raise £250,000 through 2010 and into 2011 to replace the hall at its Training and Activity Centre on the Clevedon Road – sponsorship from the Dragon Boat Race will go towards this target.

The 1st Nailsea Scout Group has 240 youngsters aged from 6 to 14 years in its Beaver, Cubs and Scouts troops and offers varied and challenging indoor and outdoor activities including archery, canoeing, rock climbing, sailing and camping.
