New Director at Skills
Chris Smith has joined the headquarters team at Nottingham based Skills in the newly created post of managing director of Skills Worldwide. In his new role, he will be responsible for the strategic development of the company’s travel and tours division. Chris Smith has over 30 years’ experience in the travel and tourism industry. Most recently he has operated his own consultancy, Candasmith Travel Services, which he created after 25 years with Ilkeston Co-op Travel where he was managing director from 1999. He left the group in 2006 when Ilkeston merged with Midlands Co-op. Commenting on his appointment Chris said: “Skills is a premier travel brand in the East Midlands with a very loyal customer base and my aims are to develop the business into a market leader by enhancing the existing programmes, expanding the number of trading outlets we have, and by introducing new product ranges” Chris joins chairman Nigel Skill, finance director, Simon Skill and Pete Hallam, operations director on the board of the ninety two year old company. Nigel welcomed Chris saying: “Chris brings a wealth of travel experience and knowledge to the business and we’re confident that his involvement will broaden our customer base and widen the spread of our travel business.” In the last 12 months, Skills has carried over 40,000 passengers to over 150 different destinations across Europe and the UK.
