Lucketts Travel revolutionises school travel services in Portsmouth

Lucketts Travel has revolutionised school travel services in Portsmouth by developing a more convenient and environmentally friendly service to transport students.

The successful coach operator from Fareham has taken on a number of new contracts, previously handled by failed firm Hellyers, and incorporated these with its existing school runs to create the school travel brand - the Solent Student Link.

The Solent Student Link, which kicked off at the start of the January term, is a series of daily colour-coded routes in term time open to all pupils at Portsmouth Grammar School, St Johns College, Dovercourt School, Portsmouth High School and Mayville School.

“Taking over all these routes has enabled us to take an overview of the network and provide the right capacity vehicles to cover the demand from each area,” said Ian Luckett of Lucketts Travel.

“A school service reduces carbon emissions and traffic congestion. There is one vehicle on the road rather than up to 530 – which is the number of pupils we can accommodate on the Solent Student Link routes,” added Mr Luckett.

Designed to be convenient for parents and guardians, the Solent Student Link comprises pick up points in the Solent area, from Titchfield, Hedge End, Denmead, Clanfield or Chichester – a choice of more than 70 stops in total.

“We have a number of different options for parents to purchase fares, either return or single journeys for the entire term or one off day passes,” commented Mr Luckett.

“Travelling by coach is safe, the coach picks up in secure designated places and drops off at the school’s entrance.”

Lucketts Travel has recently invested in three new 70 seater coaches specifically for school use, which takes it fleet of dedicated school vehicles up to eight. Each dedicated coach has been painted a vibrant yellow to ensure excellent visibility.
