07/06/2012 - Lucketts Travel Caught Up In Charity Magic

As the South Coasts leading provider of luxury coaches it’s not often Lucketts Travel is called on to help those who’d rather walk than sit and be driven in comfort.

But when a group of magicians were looking to conjure up some support for a charity trek then the Fareham based firm was more than happy to help.

Lucketts Travel Caught Up In Charity Magic

The ‘2012 Magic Trek’ saw a group of South Coast magicians from the Portsmouth and District Magic Circle walk 115 miles to London, on a route that went via Brighton. The destination was Magic Circle HQ in the capital, the aim to raise cash for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The charity helps save the lives of people with blood cancer, and over six days the group of nine magicians managed to raise £5000 in sponsorship for it’s essential work. There was no trickery used in order to get to London - the trekkers kept a steady pace. Starting in Portsmouth they stopped at Bognor Regis, Shoreham by Sea, Lewes, East Grinstead and South Norwood before completing the final stage near Euston.

David Luckett MBE, Chairman of Lucketts Travel, wasn’t one of the walkers but did travel all the way with them. He was at the wheel of an Executive People Carrier, providing help and support for the magicians as they made their way to London. His help was crucial on busy A roads, acting as a shield against passing traffic with a large warning sign on the rear of the vehicle.

Trek Organiser Sean Lobhand said “Without David’s help it would have been too dangerous for us to complete the walk. His contribution was essential, allowing us to walk safely at the side of busy ‘national speed limit’ roads where there wasn’t a pavement.”

Lucketts Travel supplied the people carrier free of charge to the magicians for their sponsored trek, with David also donating his time and £200 for the charity. He said “It’s always great to be able to use our expertise to help others raise money for good causes. As a family firm we always like to get involved with worthwhile events in our local community.”
