Guide for tour operators - coach drivers hours

Changes to drivers' hours law in April 2007 will have a profound impact on tour operators, according to guidance issued by the Guild of British Coach Operators today.

The new rules introduced by the European Union will affect coach operations throughout Europe, including domestic coach operations in Great Britain. One of the most important changes is the abolition of the "12-day rule" which allowed drivers to work 12 days consecutively before having a weekly rest. This provision was often used for extended tours but in future drivers must have a weekly rest - of at least 24 hours - after only 6 days' work.

Guild Administrator Richard Delahoy explained: "Our guidance is designed to help tour organisers to plan the best way to work within the new law".

The Guild's briefing note can be downloaded here or requested by e-mail to admin@coach-tours.co.uk.
