18/09/2013 - Celebrating a century with Lucketts Travel

When Catherine Buckingham turned 100 her family knew just what she’d want for a present - a day out on a luxury Lucketts coach.

Catherine, who lives in Bedhampton, has been a fan of the family run firm for years. She was delighted to receive vouchers on her 100th birthday for a trip of her choice from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lucketts Travel added extra vouchers to the gift, and that meant Catherine and daughter Wendy Smullen could take a trip to Bournemouth for lunch on Friday the 6th September, with a tour through the beautiful New Forest as well.

Born and brought up in Cosham, Catherine is one of a group of South Coast residents who have been around longer than Lucketts itself. The company is comparatively young at 87 years old, and has a loyal following amongst older generations looking for a great value, safe and comfortable day out or holiday.

Catherine, whose 100th birthday was on May 25th, was eager to get on board. She said "I'm very excited about the trip and I've been looking forward to it for ages". The company presented the centenarian with a commemorative Lucketts teddy bear, and Catherine took her favourite front seat - guaranteed to get the best view.

The trip was such a success that Catherine is looking forward to more days out with Lucketts as she moves in to her second century. Her daughter Wendy is asking family members to give her vouchers for Christmas and next year's birthday. Wendy is planning to take her mother on a day trip every month, chosen from the soon to be released 2014 Spring/Summer brochure.

Her family describe her as "bright as a button", and with a hoe in hand Catherine still tends her own garden.  She is looking forward to getting out with Lucketts to see other gardeners work, a fan of traveling in luxury and style.  When not on a coach trip, or visiting friends and family, she likes to stay at home and watch a wide variety of sport on television, and has a renowned memory for all matters sporting.

Paul Barringer, Group Sales and Marketing Director at Lucketts Travel Group said, "Catherine was thirteen when Lucketts started its business in Fareham, and she has been able to watch our company grow into a South Coast success story. We were delighted that Catherine's family decided to give her vouchers to travel with Lucketts for her 100th birthday, and were pleased to be able to make our own contribution, allowing her to go a little further afield. We look forward to seeing her and daughter Wendy back on board in the New Year"
