Bristol Based Charity Appeals For Volunteers To Help At World’s Biggest Power Walk Event
Locally based national charity Penny Brohn Cancer Care is appealing for volunteers to help at the annual MoonWalk in London, in support of Walk the Walk, one of the charity’s major funders.
Over 15,000 people will come together on the night of 14 May to raise money for vital breast cancer causes, by walking a full moon (26.2 miles) or half moon (13.1 miles) at midnight in brightly decorated bras.
A team of 50 volunteers for Penny Brohn Cancer Care will help out at the event in London’s Hyde Park, working from 6pm until midnight. The team will sell charity sponsored Walk Wear such as badges and balloons. They will also offer Walk the Walk themed temporary tattoos and hand out water to participants.
Transport from Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare has been donated by West Country coach operators Bakers Dolphin, so volunteers can sign up without the hassle of finding a way to get there.
Penny Brohn Cancer Care, based in Pill, does not receive any form of statutory funding and so relies entirely on voluntary donations such as those from Walk the Walk to help people to live well with cancer. The charity offers a range of residential and non-residential programmes from one-to-one appointments through to five-day courses.
Events and corporate manager at the charity, Amy Cason said:
“Each year Walk the Walk is so generous to Penny Brohn Cancer Care. To date they’ve donated over £13.5 million and we really couldn’t continue our work without them.
“We are also very grateful to those at Bakers Dolphin Coaches, who are saving us a huge cost by providing transport for the event, but now we need a team of volunteers to join us on the day and help out more.
“The great thing about this is that you can be supporting the charity without taking part in the walk itself. So if marathons or bike rides aren’t your thing this is the event for you!
Bakers Dolphin sales and marketing director Amanda Harrington said:
“We will be picking volunteers up from Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare. It is our great pleasure to help out this wonderful charity that does such great work in the region. Please sign up to help out at the event so you can support them too!”
Penny Brohn Cancer Care is recruiting volunteers now. For more information and to sign up please contact Amy Cason on 01275 370 081 or at amy.cason@pennybrohn.org
