25/11/2013 - Bristol woman treks in Himalayas in memory of husband
A Bristol woman is taking on the challenge of a lifetime as she embarks on a trek through the base of the Himalayas to support local cancer charity Penny Brohn Cancer Care in memory of her husband.
Pam Jeffery, 61, from Clutton, has been inspired to take on this incredible challenge as a way of thanking the Pill based cancer charity and raise money after the support and care it gave her husband Mac during his 11 year battle with cancer. Pam and Mac had booked to visit India last year but sadly he passed away in 2012. To date Pam has raised over £2,400.
Pam is joined by 24 others who fly out of Heathrow on Friday 15th November. The team will trek 67km in the Dharamsala region of North East India in the base of the Himalayas, home to the Dalai Lama before visiting the greatest monument to love ever built, the Taj Mahal. Pam said:
"This is going to be an emotional adventure but I know that Mac will be with me every step of the way. Our planned India trip had to be cancelled and when I saw that Penny Brohn Cancer Care were organising a fundraising trek there, I just had to do it.
"It's also going to be very physically challenging as well but we have all been training really hard and are really looking forward to it.
"I have been overwhelmed by all of the support I have been given by my yoga students, friends and family. The trek is a fantastic way to give something back to Penny Brohn Cancer Care and say thank you for the support they gave Mac."
West Country coach operators Bakers Dolphin are supporting the charity by providing transport to the group from Bristol to Heathrow.
