Bakers Coaches Open Day - October 2nd
As part of its 75th Anniversary, celebrations, Bakers Coaches will be holding an Open Day for local people, friends and colleagues from the industry, all invited to visit the company’s headquarters at the Coach Travel Centre, Biddulph. Theme for the day will be ‘A celebration of Passenger Transport’ and visitors will be invited to see a selection of some veteran vehicles as well as the latest additions to the Bakers fleet.
Cars from late Thirties and Forties will represent some of the vehicles of the time when James and Ethel Baker started the business at Whitegate Garage, Whitemoor – four miles from the current Operating Centre. There will also be coaches and buses from the 1960’s and 1970’s era when Bakers moved into coach travel and holidays. The company will also showcase its new public service vehicles, the new Volvo Hybrid double Deck buses and the latest Scania and Volvo coaches. Sample rides will be available for old and new buses/coaches.
Search for Vehicles
“There are some vehicles that have a special place in our history,” said Philip Baker.
“We are particularly interested in locating either a 1965 Bedford 41 seat Plaxton Panorama, a 1970 Bedford PJK 29 seat Duple, a 1972 Bristol 53 seat LHL Plaxton or a 1976 Bristol 35 seat LHS Plaxton.”
"We would be delighted to hear from any veteran coach enthusiasts that have any information of the whereabouts of these models.
Please join us on Sunday 2 October, anytime between 10 am, and 4 pm – parking is available close to the site. Refreshments will be available and there will be a small admission charge on behalf of the Douglas MacMillan Hospice.
