Another award for Woods Coaches
Awards just keep coming for Woods Coaches. Not only did they win Day Excursion Programme of the Year in May, but one of their managers has just won Coach Manager of the Year at the industry’s recent Route One Operator Excellence Awards.
William Tanser joined the Wigston based company as a driver at the age of 21 and 14 years later has progressed to the position of Traffic Manager, which he has held for 4 years.
The judges were impressed by the positive effect that William has had on the coach hire figures and how he has established strong links with other coach operators so that opportunities for large corporate jobs can be explored. They stated that, “his initiatives and commitment to his employer are outstanding.”
The company was established in 1950 by George and Elaine Wood with just one vehicle. It now runs a fleet of 16 coaches and 29 minibuses operating services around the county, with over 100 employees. William works closely with the drivers, holding regular meetings, not only to get to know them but to also assess their training needs. He said, “I was delighted initially to be short listed for such a prestigious award within the industry, but was completely thrilled and surprised to find out that I had won it.“
Managing Director, Kevin Brown said, “this is a tremendous achievement for both Bill and the company as a whole. Two awards in one year is fantastic and we feel that we are being recognised for all of our hard work.
We are hoping that our excursion programme will go from strength to strength next year, when we include several special events including the Terracotta Army and Tutankhamun exhibitions plus pop concerts from Westlife and Cliff Richard. Bill is an important part of the team working behind the scenes, helping to ensure that these trips are successful.”
